Guidance for those wishing to apply for a Basketball sports scholarship, including information on pathways and application criteria.

The University of Worcester is dedicated to supporting talented young athletes in a range of sports and we welcome your interest in our the sports scholarship scheme. We recommend you read through the below information carefully before completing the screening form  

If you would like to be considered for a sports scholarship for the academic year 2024-25 please complete our short screening form by 4pm on Friday 17th May 2024.  

If the screening process is successful then you will be sent the link to the full scholarship application form which will need to be completed by 4pm on Friday 31st May 2024.  Those who successfully complete the full scholarship application form by this date will receive confirmation of their sports scholarship status for the academic year 2024/25 by Wednesday 31st July 2024.

UW Sport Scholarship pathways

Once you’ve applied for the sports scholarship scheme your application will be reviewed by our panel. If you are successful you’ll be placed on one of our two pathways; Dual Career Scholarship Student (DCSS) or UW Sport Scholarship.

Dual Career Scholarship Student

As part of this pathway, here is some of what you’ll receive:

  • UW Clothing bundle
  • Financial Support
  • Gym membership
  • Individual S & C
  • Individualised Sports Therapy and injury prevention
  • Lifestyle advisor and academic support

Performance Potential 

As part of this pathway, here is some of what you’ll receive:

  • Financial support
  • Free Gym membership
  • Individual S & C
  • Access to Sports Therapy clinic
  • Lifestyle advisor

To be eligible for scholarship a UW Basketball Scholarship, the level of expected performance is detailed below. 

Dual Career Scholarship Student: Senior national team; U20’s National team; Men’s/Women’s BBL playing experience, or Men’s/Women’s division 1/National league play offs playing experience.

Performance Potential: Men – Recent (within one year) U18 national team playing experience. Women – Representative honours (within one year) at U18 national team playing experience. Regional level and U18 preliminary squad may also be considered.
